Speech Therapy
Prestige Therapy addresses disorders related to Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Articulation Disorders, Phonological Disorders, Dysarthric speech and lisps.
Childhood Apraxia of Speech
CAS is an motor speech disorder. Children with CAS have problems saying sounds, syllables, and words. This is not because of muscle weakness or paralysis. The brain has problems planning to move the body parts (e.g., lips, jaw, tongue) needed for speech.
Articulation Disorders
Articulation Disorders affect the phonetic level. The child has difficulty saying particular consonants and vowels. The reason for this may be unknown (e.g., children with functional speech disorders who do NOT have serious problems with muscle function); or the reason may be known (e.g., children with dysarthria who DO have serious problems with muscle function).
Phonological Disorders
Phonological Disorders are a language disorder that affects at the phonemic level. The child has difficulty organizing their speech sounds into a system of sound contrasts.
Dysarthria
Dysarthria is a motor speech disorder resulting from neurological injury of the motor component of the motor-speech system and is characterized by poor articulation of phonemes (sounds).
Lisp
A lisp is a speech impediment in which the child misarticulates silibant sounds (s, z, ch, sh, jah). The misarticulation of these sounds can result in unclear speech.
We work on increasing oral motor strength and stability to increase speech sound production.
